Has anyone tried a keto or other low carb diet?

I've been familiar with low/no carb diets since the Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution days of the 1970s, when o lost 29 lbs. in 29 days and felt fantastic. I found I am VERY sensitive to carbs, began to stop losing when I had as few as 15 grams. I've done a variation of this diet several times over the years and have always lost weight easily.
But I am definitely a carb addict -- would be nice if there was a 12-step organization for US! I used it last year to lose the weight necessary to have the 2nd hip replacement, but have gained it back since returning from Savannah in January. I was awfully depressed to be away from that precious new baby grandson, and our winter weather until well into April didn't help. Got to buckle down and do it all again for a return trip to see him in July.

I've used the Ideal Protein diet for years. It is the most effective and easy-to-follow diet that I have tried... and there have been legions of diets! It provides enough protein to stave off hunger. Eating carbs sets up huge cravings for me.

Have lost 50 lbs. on Keto, no more knee pain and have more energy. Electrolytes are important to keep balanced, to feel well at first. Educate yourself and go for it!!

My husband and I have been on a low carb sensible fat / protein eating plan w/ heavy on the non carby veggies (leafy greens, summer squash, asparagus, broccoli, etc...) We both have done well, he has lost 30 lbs, I have only lost a hand full, but both of our blood work improved drastically. Both cholesterol, triglyceride, A1C, blood sugar levels improved. In addition even though I haven't lost much weight my gout and other arthritis improved dramatically, gout swelling around my ankles nearly dissapeared my chronic stomach issues improved enough that instead of daily meds I only need them occasionally, and my auto immune numbers even improved. We keep our carbs under 20 per day.

God Bless us all, we are all struggling with weight issues, I'm not alone. I've just joined WW for the umpteenth time and I'm tired of battling! I'm a carbohollic and I agree their should be a meeting place especially for us.

I was confused about why you would respond to my post this way and realized that I must not have been clear. Ideal Protein is a ketogenic diet.

I just watched a documentary on Netflix called The Magic Pill. It advocates a ketogenic diet for what ails ya...
It is an hour and a half long. Here is the trailer: https://www.ask.com/youtube?q=the+ma...&v=61GitUC_678

Thanks Jenn, that documentary was what got me interested. Had my daughter and her boyfriend watch it today and they thought it was really interesting too. I highly recommend it to anyone who has Netflix. Very eye opening.
I started on the keto almost a week ago. It's quite the learning experience! I do think I feel better on it even though I have symptoms of keto "flu" off and on. Some of the tips I Googled have been useful for that. It has taken time to assemble enough baking ingredients. Made some keto brownies and they turned out much better than I expected. As my dd said, not quite as good as regular brownies, but satisfying for when you need a treat. Might try macadamia bread this week.

I am listening to a week long Keto Edge Summit. Wow! Most of the presenters recommend 70 - 80% fats, 20 % protein and the rest carbs from vegetables. That doesn't leave much for veggies, though by volume it would be more than it sounds as fat is so high in calories. The one speaking right now is telling about all the diabetes who are recovering. If you can't find the summit, Google Dr Jockers - he's the host and I'm sure has some info on his website. Dr Mowll is the diabetes speaker. I don't have diabetes, but I'm willing to try it to reduce the inflammation in my body. I don't have too far to go. Already limited by celiac disease, allergies to yeast, corn, sulfites, etc. My problem will be an occasional GF cookie and ice cream. Dr Jockers mentioned pickle juice for the Keto flu, too.
