I found a round plastic strainer that is microwave safe. I put my frozen vegetables in it and set it in a shallow bowl. I microwave the vegetables until desired doneness. The vegetables "steam" while cooking this way but come out of the strainer dry. Shredded cheese will actually cling to the vegetables instead of running off of them and the same with cream or cheese sauces. No more watery cheese/sauce in the bottom of the bowl

Amma, do you put a lid over the bowl and strainer or do without?

That's a good idea.

I put several paper towels in the bottom of the bowl when I use the microwave to steam veggies. I use tongs and take out the wet towels. I usually don't cover the frozen veggies but add water and cover for the fresh.

I do not add a cover, the vegetables steam themselves being frozen and come out very moist but cooked and dry to the touch on the outsides.

Thanks, Amma, I have always been disappointed with my frozen vegetables in the microwave. It looks like I must have been doing it all wrong. Will try it your way and see what happens.
