pigs in a blanket a/k/a halupki a/k/a piggies a/k/a cabbage rolls here in the great NE, home of wonderful Polish and German cooks:
hamburger, rice, salt, pepper, egg. mush together. form into rolls the size of your cupped hand. lay onto a boiled cabbage leaf. wrap like a diaper on the sides and roll up. place seam edge down onto casserole dish. cover with tomato soup and bake until done.
you described 'little smokies' to us. want a neat variation of them- wrap them in bacon and place on cookie sheet covered with alum. foil. sprinkle with brown sugar. bake until bacon is done. I use 1 package of little smokies, 1 lb. of bacon cut up in thirds. probably a heart attack waiting to happen, bu they are sooo good.

PIBs to us is a ground beef and rice mixture wrapped up in cabbage leaves and cooked in a tomato base. Very yummy and traditional.
The things you're describing are just call Wrapped Wiennies to us! LOL

Pigs in a blanket to me is the easy way out. One slice of bread with one slice of cheese and one hot dog, fold corners of bread diagonal and stick toothpick to make ends stay. Pop in oven for 5 minutes or more to brown and then it's ready to eat.
I have had it as the others have suggested with the bread dough but use hot dogs.
Love them!

WOW the variations on PIBs - Now we can all see how quilt blocks got different names.
Others mentioned Polish and German heritage...
others mentioned cabbage rolls...
How about 'Sarma' - Croatian heritage
:)
