Since I use either Navy or Northern Beans, I soak mine overnight. Then the next morning I drain and rinse them. Put them in a pot of water with 2 teaspoons of baking soda. Bring to a boil and skim off the foam. Boil for at least 30 - 45 minutes. Drain and pour beans into a pot, add the remaining ingredients, water and stir together. Cover the handles with a piece of aluminum foil. Bake in 350 degree oven for 4 hours.

Sounds yummy, haven't had Navy or Northern beans in such a long time. Dad would cook Northern beans with a leftover ham bone. Homemade biscuits served with our meal.

I make ham and beans so I soak mine over night. I have tried the fast method and it did and ok job.

Instant Pot, they go from dried in the bag to ready to use in any recipe calling for canned beans within 30 minutes. I add a tablespoon of vinegar after they come out of the IP to defeat the gas.
