I have the 8200 (same machine, less stitches) I also had a problem with free motion. I finally read the manual and it said to use the single hole footplate.....Never a problem again.

I would suggest the Janome 9400..It's great machine. gshalom is a great machine. I've had a Viking machine for a number of years and the auto pressure foot is wonderful. When quilting it's so handy.

I do the same as Misty's Mom for big quilts....I use 2.5 inch on small quilts, 3 inch on medium quilts and 3.5 inch on really large quilts. I do this because I think the wider bindings look better...
