One of our son's got married last August. I made a blue and cream quilt for them. I used the same size block but, each block was different. This was a king size quilt. You can see it on my blog :

The previous posts have some good ideas for patterns. Please post a picture when you are done. I love the color combination and I'm certain it will be gorgeous.

I like the "not so top secret" quilt pattern.

I have made it scrappy and just 2 different fabrics.

A Burgoyne Surrounded is a very classic pattern often done in 2 colors. I made one for my son when he married. You wouldn't have to do the checkerboard border. Eleanor Burns has a book of it with directions for several sizes.

The log cabin is such a beautiful, traditional quilt and I think would be perfect for your colors.

Almost any block can be used, and navy blue and cream quilts are quite striking. I just made a Sister's Choice (also known as farmer's daughter) quilt for our family reunion raffle quilt and it was beautiful in a variety of medium to navy blues with white. An Irish chain would be traditional and striking in blue and white, as well as double wedding ring I would suggest Quilterscache.com where they not only show the blocks, but they show the blocks and some completed quilts in color. I'm sure whatever you make will be fine with your son and new DIL.

Burgoyne Surrounded is a classic/historical pattern and is often shown in navy/cream. It would never go out of favor. Those colors/pattern are on my to-do list as well.

When my daughter bought her new home I made her a queen size quilt with red & cream using the drunkard's path pattern.
