Newbie's please ask specifically your questions here. Your probably not the only one hoping to learn on the topic.
We try to find online links for youtube or tutorials or simple instructions to help everyone on the questions. Posting to all, more learn. Or we respond direct to your question, and again, more learn in the whole group. So, don't feel shy, please ask, in detail, what your needing help with...patterns, pressing, cutting, tools, fabrics, piecing, anything. By the way, Quilt Acranyms have been posted a couple of times on this site, I know page 83 has them. It's also very worth the time to go back several pages as we've posted details of quilting tips & links. If you're just joining us, these will be helpful. Good Luck & welcome (Most of us, even after many quilts, can be a newbie to a new technique), we've all started somewhere, and understand..there are no unimportant questions. Debbie

found this link, it's very helpful for anyone trying to figure out yardages for their own quilt. Often we find a quilt block we like, and not know how to figure the construction.

and I liked this link, creating a quilt by your 'mood' colors.

Another site with great step by step tutorials to begin a quilt.

I'd be happy to help someone. I do mostly piecing, paper piecing and some applique. I quilt with a Viking quilter, not a Long Arm, but it will do up to a queen comfortable. I've won a few awards but mostly make quilts for Project Linus, family and friends. Am interested in the Alzheimer's project and will check into it.

look on line for patterns - there are so many. If you need help with specifics, I'm usually here every day or email me directly.

There are some great patterns for jelly rolls. Jan

just remember have fun. It is always fun to hang onto that first quilt. In a few years down the road, dig out that first quilt. See how far you've improved. Don't get upset if it don't turn out how you want. This is fun. Also this is how you learn. :D

I didn't ask and not sure how much you've read, but you need to keep a consistant 1/4" seam to make your blocks come out right. If you don't have a 1/4" foot, mark it with masking tape - just measure 1/4" out from the hole your needles goes into.

That and accurate cutting (and the ironing, of course!) is all there is to getting started. Jan
