Not looking forward to it. It will be high with the triple digit heat in Texas, though our thermostat is set on 80*. Will get it via email any time now. Eeeek!

Ugh.....we had our highest bill ever this July $368. for one month. We do not keep it cold (air does not come on till 82 degrees) and only override it for a few hours a day. Here in AZ we are at our worst months of the year...hubby got in his car yesterday when he came out of work and the thermometer in the car read 121 degrees. Now that's hot! Of course when some folks are shoveling snow and are all bundled up we are still in shorts and flip flops. Guess summer heat is the price we pay for that.

I'm in north central Florida where the heat indices have been 105 for the last week and just hot, humid, and miserable. I just paid my electric bill for July and it was $279.86. That includes a 'power cost adjustment' of $57.43 because of the high price of fuel they have to pay. Geesh. Is it cool anywhere in the US? I shouldn't complain though. At least we're getting rain, unlike our Texas residents who are having a very rough time without any.

Not looking forward to getting mine either! I think that the Pacific NW has had the best weather this summer, at least every time I talk to Mom, she's got a sweatshirt on!

Probably need to explain that foundation comment to non-Texans!

The soil there is such that it dries very quickly. Most (nearly all) homes are built on slab foundations. It is more important to keep the ground around the foundations moisturized than it is your landscaping! Because if you don't, the ground cracks, the slab cracks, then the walls separate, and then all "stuff" breaks loose. "Foundation problems" is a dreaded word on real estate flyers/contracts and can sound the death toll for a house sale.

I remember when we first lived in TX. My ex, on hearing this about houses, was out spraying the house itself with water one day. I was horrified and yelled at him....."stop making the bricks colder/wetter than the air lest you cause them to crack or break and the mortar to separate!!" Double engineering major had never thought of it that way. Went back to "watering the foundation" only right quick! Do not "wash" the outside of your house in the heat.

That is very interesting. I live where the ground can be so wet that if will run in our basements . than we are trying to keep them dry. The water can wreck our basments walls. Isn't life funny.

Haven't recieved mind yet. Not looking forward to it since the ac went out a couple of weeks ago & the fan was running day & night. Then once fixed it took more then 12 hours to cool off the house. Thanks to the sun setting, it didn't have to work as hard.

My Electric bill was $255, and that is for a 2 story 2400 SqF. Summer it is not bad. It is a really old house, thick walls, keeps its cool very well. Just doesn't hold onto heat. which is only good in the summer LOL, come winter my bill can get to over $400!
