Arkansas has been in a heat wave for weeks. I dread my July bill. I turn the thermostat up to 80 when I leave in the morning and set it to 75 when I get home. Last Wednesday we hit 114 degrees. Needless to say, that was a record.

Ours was $178 and we have about an 1800 square foot tri-level.
I have to keep the air lower because otherwise out upstairs is hot and that is where my sewing room, office and bedroom are.

ours is about $30 a month year round (avg. 6 KWH a day). No electric cook stove, no heat, no AC, no dryer, water heater runs about an hour a day. Biggest hog is an old refrigerator.

We were blessed with enough money to pay our elec bill this month for July. I live in the river valley of western arkansas and we have had over 34 days of 100+ heat. Last wednesday my temp in my jeep read 116 outside. Our trees are turning brown and losing leaves. No pretty fall colors for us this year. We have broken weather records dating back over 100 yrs. And NO rain to boot. It has been a miserable summer. Had horrible storms for spring and really cold temps and snow for winter. I pray 2012 will be better for our whole country.

our electric bill was 286.00 for the month of july my bill usually runs around 90 to 100 a month . but electrc jump because we have my elderly father staying with us and feels the need to turn the ac on at 7 am and watches tv all day all night . i am trying to get him to go back to his house where he has central air that he had installed last year and only used for 2 months . maybe i am dong this wrong maybe i should take him and my family to his house to stay . if my bills keep staying this high i am going to have to take a bank loan out . the increase in electric bill is taking away from my fuel oil supply money that i need for the colder months help any suggestions.

I am planning a move to NV and will supplement (or use instead of my AC) with a cooler. Is a large portion of your bill because of the pool? I had hoped a cooler would be much cheaper than AC.
I'm in northern NV - which is a whole other planet from southern NV - but my power bill stays the same pretty well all year -- the forced air furnace in the winter uses about as much as the swamp cooler in the summer --- now the gas bill... that's a different story!

During the summer it's around $45 -- but in the winter we usually have at least one $400+ bill -- where I am it's not too surprising to have lows in the -20's in January
