It is all location location location..I just called my sister-in-law, who just sold her shop not even 6 months ago to retire and travel with her husband who is a semi driver. She said if she could have charged and actually had people pay those prices..she would never retire. She does have a friend who owns her own shop in a different city and state..and she charges 48 for her cuts.

I get my hair cut and colored and happily pay for first rate work. I've been going to the same person for some years now and she does beautiful color work, gives a good haircut--worth every penny.

Times are tough all over and the competition for everything is getting stronger. I used to get a $35 + tip haircut but shopped around a bit and found a place really close to me and she only charges $15. Every bit as good and very nice shop. First time I went there, she charged less...for new customers. So, she is definitely competing.

Me too! I needed my hair cut and it was $35 in this little town of Elk Rapids. Plus the tip, which I shouldn't have done. Hubby and I usually go together at our regular place and we give her $37 (tip included) for both of us. Think I will be shopping around before I go again around Elk Rapids. Maybe I should give Vicki a bigger tip! She does a great job.

I pay the $30 about every 6 weeks. If I look better, I feel better and my hair is faster to fix. That way I don't waste precious time fixing myself and have more time to do what I like such as quilting.

I think it is time to go back to old days ,everyone knows how to things on their own .Living and growing up in the country ,we had to be able to do alot of things ourselves, still do it to this day, although I do once in a while go and treat myself for a haircut .Here in NY some of our walmarts have smart style in them they charge I believe do not quote me on this $15 for a cut

Wal-Mart charges about $18. Even that's too high for me so I usually cut it myself until it's so bad I can't show my face, or head, in public and then I break down and go to the hairdresser.
