Default What does this mean?

Trying to expand my knowledge base. What does "badged" machine mean? Also, what is a potted motor?

Here is ismacs answer
http://ismacs.net/faq.html#badged

If you look at these recent threads
http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t279324.html
http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t279291.html
you will see nearly identical machines with different "name badges" while the "badge" is different the machines themselves are the same machine. They were actually made by the same company and then "badged" differently.

"Potted motor" is a little harder to explain. IIRC it means that the motor is an integral part of the machine itself and drives an inside gear like in the 15-91 and 201-2 machines. Unlike a lot of machines that have a separate motor and belt or direct drive wheel that can easily removed from the machine and switched out with another motor.

Here's a picture I took from Yahoo images of a Singer 201-2. The potted motor can be seen here, notice that it sits up high and has no belt.
