    my mom used to buy those vinyl tablecloths when us kids were small. They were cheap, I don't know who carries them if anyone. They had sort of a flannel side and then a vinyl side. Us kids were hard on them but they did protect the table. When one got too tattered, out it went. for kids maybe you could make a blue jean one that can be throw in the washer.

    I had a denim quilt for my bed in college.... It is still in great condition. Thanks for your great ideas!
