Thimblebug, that looks very nice! I love how your colors really shows the circle vs cross pattern of the background around the pinwheel units. Makes me motivated to get more blocks done to see how that looks with my color choices.
I have my pieces sorted out for each block - and put in baggies to keep them separate. I'll sew one at a time and lay them out and then use the "webbing" method of sewing to keep them organized. I'm sewing them so I can spin the seams afterwards. And one finished block!
BTW - I did catch that yellow turned the wrong way before I sewed it - just not before I took the picture.

Beautiful fabrics and piecing in yours Thimblebug. I see what you mean about wanting to extend that dark line further but honestly, if you had not pointed it out I would have just registered it as a "modern" look.
Are you going to applique a dark candy over the light ones so your dark line extends on both top and bottom?

All right, sooo….
I got the blocks made. I put them on the design wall in the orientation the instructions gave, which creates half “squares” of the 2.5” squares at the top and bottom.
I made an executive decision and rotated the blocks so that a four-block unit created a complete square. I like mine better this way, so after a bit of tweaking of block positions to avoid same fabrics next to one another, I think I’m going to go with this layout. What do y’all think?

Quossum - I like your layout much better than the original. Now the top and bottom are starting and finishing the same way the right and left sides are starting and finishing. I like consistency. Yours looks more orderly. The half squares of the original draw the eye off the quilt. Your design keeps the eye on the quilt, moving around enjoying the pattern. (In my art history courses, I learned that a lot of "great" art has things around the edges that draw the eye back in towards the center of the work - haven't thought about that for many years!)

Thanks for the input! I’m sewing them together now!
I think the other way preserved the “mystery” for longer, because it was really hard to tell how this one was going to work out as you went along.
Mine is really scrappy and busy, but I like that you *can* see the overall pattern when you step back and look at it as a whole.
I’ll definitely post the finished top when I get the borders on, too!
