Third egg is hatching! Today the top of its head was visible. Its siblings are eating up a storm. The nest is loaded with fish and a water fowl called a coot (which I thought was a duck but it isn't). My first time watching eaglets hatching. The moderators on the Youtube site (click on youtube on the bottom of the video feed) have been very informative. Moderators go live at 5 pm California time and I think in the mornings too but I'm not online in the mornings. Janice, our boomerang leader posted that there is national coverage of the nest on the news!

Love watching this eagle family! I keep the nestcam on all day, in a small picture window on the computer. Currently they got a lot of snow last night and the nest is covered in deep snow... except for the center where the eagles sit over their babies. It's still snowing and the parent shakes it off his/her wings and back every so often.
Yesterday there was no snow, and at one point the camera zoomed in on one little eaglet face peeking out from below the parent's chest. So cute!

Sad news.... one of the eagle babies has died around March 14. A snow storm left 2 feet of snow in the area. The dad pulled the corpse out of the bowl of the nest and by the end of the day the mom flew the corpse out of the nest. Two eagles to grow now.

Happy News! The first of the Eagle babies has left the nest today. The second is likely to fledge soon, too. The first to leave has been named Sunny. The second is Gizmo. The folks monitoring the cameras are able to track Sunny and the newslog says the parents will continue to supervise the eagles and make sure they are fed no matter where they are until fully grown. No white feathered heads or tails yet. The babies are not eaglets now... they are Juvenile's when they fledge.

Those eagles are addicting, aren't they! I missed the live take off. I am glad you got to see it live! Thank goodness for youtube for the rest of us. When I tuned in tonight Sunny was back in the nest hanging with Gizmo. I'm glad they are still buddies. Gizmo is just a few days younger than Sunny. She'll be taking flight soon. Then the camera people can go fix their camera :-)
