my big selvedge quilt...with a little help from friends

ALWAYS in the market for more. 1/2"-ish of color is enough for color to show in blocks, I have to have 1/4" color to make them even usable, there has to be seam allowance.

LOL, so I showed the quilt to the hubby who is not really very quilting oriented. He is all WOW and wants to know, (a) if he can share it on his facebook, and (b) if you have any idea roughly how many pieces there are in an average block. If you don't know already he may be willing to blow up the picture and count the border pieces...
There are 8000+ pieces in the body, I forgot to count the borders so probably closer to 9K.
The beginning base block is this one, I made 4 blocks per color not repeating selvedges, then stack and quarter and sew back together, so I'd be hard pressed to say which part is a block
You need to send me your address again, so I can get Heartfelt in the mail before we take off for 3-4 months.

Doesn't bother me, and if I ever get laid up in bed again, I won't run out of things to read!

I starch and press the original blocks as I go along. By the time they are this small shrinkage is minimal Sharon. I have run across a few that have quite thick selvedges that I can't straighten so I save those for tieing up plants or wrapping around boxes. 6.5" is the maximum length I used in this quilt.

thank you all for your kind words. To respond to the color placement...that didn't have much to do with me, it had to do with how many blocks I could get out of what I had. Given my druthers I would have had enough in one color to make a heart shape in the middle. But I''m happy, and I'm not very fussy

Having made my share of string quilts, I have to say that your quilt is absolutely fabulous! I loved your comment about having something to read if you were laid up. I try to cut strips so that they are legible when I have fabric with words or writing. I have also seen them used in bookcase quilts, as book spines. Guess I should start saving my selvedges???
