I agree with you all. I wonder how much fabric the shops will end up eating and it is so sad because it turns more people off to quilting and sewing. I realize that they need to make money, but... the singer store in town sells fabric very reasonably. It is a combination sewing machine, vaccum cleaner store and they have a lot of quilting fabric and notions. I took a lot of classes there. They are in a different town (28 miles one way) but the fabric is nice and a lot of the fabrics are $5.99 and up. A new quilting store opened up in another town ( 28 miles one way) we are between large towns, and I haven't had a chance to visit it yet except for once when I went in only to find it was closing early. The owner was really friendly, but she dragged me over to show me the newest toy-the machine that cuts the squares and shapes. She said it was "only $395) and I nearly laughed out loud. I hope she sells a lot of them.

Guess I will be using my stash now. I have a lot of fabric that I have bought over time so I should not run out in this lifetime. I will order from Thousands of Bolts and other places that I can afford. I am retired and on a fixed income and the high prices are no longer within my budget.

I haven't read this whole post so I hope I'm not repeating. I heard several months ago that the price of cotton was going up and this is what's driving the price of fabric up. Has something to do with the growing season and the weather. Does this mean if the growers have a good year next year that the price will go down?

I posted that about the cotton prices going up do to a bad cotton crop. Earlier this spring do to the flooding quite a bit of the cotton crop down south was flooded out. The article was in the news early this year. Since then the market has balanced out and it will not be as bad as first thought. So the prices won't be going up by leaps and bounds. The pricing we are seeing now will be around for a while.
