I sewed on my Grandma's treadle machine when I was about 8 or 9. I loved it. Now, I am finally getting it from my sister even tho I probably won't use it for sewing, just as a memento.

I was thinking of using mine to teach my granddaughter to sew. I think it would be safer. What do the rest of you think?

My mother's first sewing machine was a non-electric sewing machine, so I did learn how to sew with a treadle machine. Later, when she became a seamstress she bought the attachment to put on the wheels so that it will run on electric.
I have been trying to find a decent sewing machine in the late 50's around my hometown, but have had no luck so far.

I learned on a treadle of my DGM Flannery, all I could do was repair clothes.

I did, my Grandma gave me a treadle machine for my 9th birthday. I don't have it anymore, my Mom got rid of it at some point, I sure wish I had it still.

When I was about eight years old, my mother bought a White treadle machine from a door to door salesman. It was the Depression years and money was very tight, but that machine was the best thing that happend to me. It was a few years before my mother would let me sew on it, but once I got control of it, it was mine. Years later, when my parents built a new home, my dad gave the machine away, not thinking I would want it. It was a sad day when I found out. I would love to have it now. Enjoy. GiGi

Learned to sew on Mom's 1946 Kenmore. Grandma gave me her treadle when she bought an electric in 1954. Wish I had it now. Wasn't a Singer; think it may have been a White.

LOL You made me remember taking my cat Tinkle for a walk in my doll carriage. She was in a pink doll dress, jumped out, and didn't return until the dress was off. Wonder what story she would tell?

I learned to sew on a treadle machine. That machine is in my daughter's home. My mother-in-law's treadle machine is in my daughter-in-law's home. Both cherish them - but do not sew on them. They will be treated well.
