I use cotton and or poly/cotton blends. I enjoy trying new block patterns but only make enough blocks to create a square with borders that will be about 38". This is ideal for a wheel chair. Sometimes a pretty print can be cut square and tone on tone borders added. This leaves lots of room to try various quilting designs on the borders.

It is so rewarding to see folks with these on their laps especailly when they are taken to the auditorium to see programs or even to therapy. Elderly ladies love blocks that contain flowers.

I only buy fat quarters if there is a particular fabric that I cannot find on the bolt. It is much more economical to purchase a 1/4 yard of fabric.

I usually purchase yardage, watch sales, at LQS and big box stores, just watch the quality, when I purchase fabric for a quilt, if I kinda of like it, I buy about 1 yard extra, if I really like it I buy 2 to 3 yards and if its on sale and I have a coupon, look out

I buy yardage and cut my own FQ's. I just buy a 1/2 yd more that my project calls for.

    Hi, Evelyn!
Thank you for the information! I'll add it to my logbook of quilting facts. They don't seem too difficult at all. Do you use flannel for batting? Do you make the lap quilts reversible?

I buy mostly yardage, I'll also buy FQs when they're on sale. Don't buy the new cuts (charm squares, jelly rolls, etc.) which are priced for quilters who want to pay for convenience.
I enjoy playing with my stash so I put together my own charm squares, etc. Besides, it's a good way to use up all the odds and ends I have left over from quilt projects.
