I used to make allmy clothes, even under garments all but braws. Made Wedding dress for a few years and used to sew for people and draft pants patterns for people. Myde all my husbands slacks and 3 piece suits and ties to match my dress and our son a short to match. But gained weight and it wasn't fun any more. I still love to make my own jackets and vests and bags etc but do want to get back into some clothes sewing again for I do not like most of the styles now a day.
I think you should at least try it. It is different that quilting for the seams are 5/8 th in. ANd you have to cut most things out on the straight of the grain. Let us know what you decide.

I don't mind making the 'unstructured' things like summer tops, shorts, little girl clothes, pjs, etc. However, that is the extent of my garment sewing. Lined slacks, jackets, etc are just not in my area of expertise. For most of the clothes I wear to school, I would end up spending more money for the fabric and pattern than I do when simply buying off the rack. I really applaud those of you with the expertise to make items such as those! Back to summery things...gosh, if you have a serger, you can whip those up in no time at all!
