I quilt my own. I have a vintage Singer 201 on a Hinterburg stretch frame. All I have done so far is stipple or meander. I haven't used the templates yet.

I quilt my own, some hand quilting, some on my sewing machine, some on my Viking Mega Quilter. I love this part of it, love to do some of my own quilting designs, love to embellish with some beads sometimes. It's just the icing on the cake!

I almost bought one a few years ago. So glad I didn't because I've heard your story from so many quilters.

It hasn't worked properly since I got it and the company won't return my phone calls, the repairman from the dealer has been out several times but the owner won't let him do anything but replace one part over and over.

It's best to start in the middle top or side and work from top to bottom or side to side. Check some of the web sites or books. It just takes practice. Watch the threads here too.

I am just now trying to learn how to FMQ. I can't do any designs without a stencil, and not to good at that. Were do you start on a big quilt with a regular machine. I need some advise. Any help would be appreciated.

I've done both - but the last few I have (or am) hand quilting - my machine isn't big enough to machine quilt with

Sorry to say that while I do quilt many of my own tops, it's the part I like the least. My favorite part is getting the fabric, I don't mind cutting and I love sewing all those little pieces into a top. I just wish the quilting part was easier. I am so afraid to step out of my box and do something beside meandering. I know....practice, practice, practice...

I do my own quilting on an old Brother (1963 year mom bought it.) It is in a cabinet which the top gives an area for the quilt to stretch out. I do free hand designs and really enjoy doing so, however, a longarm would be a luxury for sure.
The part I trully enjoy is designing. The creative juices can flow until something jumps up and says "Me, Me, do Me!"
