I wish my haircut was only $35.00! Here in San Diego it is very expensive for rental space and my hairdressers price reflects that! To keep my yearly price down for hair care I only get my haircut 3-4 times per year.

I disagree that that is to much.
My gdaughter just graduated from Hair School 1,500 hrs. $23,000 student loan. Several hundred dollars worth of products and 9 months of commuting. No pay. Then they will have to keep up her liscense with more education. THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS. Hours on their feet washing smelly hair sometimes head lice. Dead dry skin enough to make one vomit and lots of peoples attitudes.
These gals study anatomy and medical conditions and conform to health regulations ready to work in an operating room. 60%of hairdresers end up in the medical field because of such a closely related program to nursing. Plus they have to pay the house 60% of what they make plus the products they use on you. Then they clean the salon. Wash the towels they use. How much of that 35.00 do they keep? Not much.

My niece is a hairdresser but just does some work out of her home and accepts donations. I pay $15 and she cuts it about every 4 to 5 wks. My hair is short so rarely needs more than 1/4 to 1/2 inch taken off. I definitely would not pay $35.

I go every week, pay $25 and my stylist does whatever needs to be done. But...I don't color, don't have an extreme hair style and prefer mine to be as short as most of the guys...and to top it off, I wouldn't do her job for $25 a patron per week...

Another problem. Most insurance companies will not insure a hair dresser because they are a high risk due to the chemicals that they are using on you. Now who pays the price if the get sick. The chains get the kids out of school and they are starved for money that is who you get.

As someone mentioned, I wouldn't do her job. It is a hard on your feet, shoulders, back & hands job. I worked in a flower shop here in town & was paid minimum wage for 30 years for a blood sucking she devil. I am glad my dd has a better job even though it is tough sometimes. She works very hard for the money she makes.

You made me curious. I researched and the beauty college near me is 2,000 hours $10,000 (supplies included). Like everything else, it depends where you live.
It still doesn't change the fact that a lot of people like me simply cannot afford the high prices.

I found once that when I went to a local salon that was more of a day spa they charged $28 for just a haircut, not style. It wasn't even done well. Last time I went there. I now go to a lady who is a one chair shop and charges $18 a cut. She does agreat job.
Some of the chain shops here charge between $15 and $20 for just a cut. Most of the stylist won't do it the way you want it but the way they think you want it. I stopped going to them.

Husband gets his cut at a local barber shop on weekends that charge $14 on Saturdays for any cut. You have to get their early if you don't want to wait in a long line.
