You can use old hairclips that way if you wash them well. But new hair clips work well without washing and they are inexpensive and they won't stick you and cause you to bleed all over the quilt!

I was just remembering that when the principal at my high school brought me my first computer, I told him I would never use it. Within two weeks, I had bought one for my house and had bought a gradebook program for all the people in my department. Don't be so quick, biscuitqueen! What if you had refused to taste lemon pie, or strawberry jam or chocolate cake?

I have the best binding clips and it is my favorite tool. I use the clip bind system by Martelli. It is fairly new to the market. But, let me tell you that I love it. It is easy to use, refillable and the thread never, never gets tangle up in it. I can do corners so much easier and I have really been please with my mitered corners. It holds the binding in place no matter how much you are messing with your quilt. It is easy to transport with you. Refills are very reasonable. I don't have to tire my hands holding the binding tight. I tend to put my clips pretty close together just for that reason. Below is a website that reviews the system. I have used these clips for 10 plus years and love them. No longer am I being stuck by straight pins when I am sewing the binding down by hand to the back. Kelela

Does anyone use the little binding clips that kind of look like hair barrettes? You use them to hold your binding in place while you blind stitch.

I use two when I'm binding a quilt....just two ahead of my needle. I do like them....better than pinning.

Do a search on the board, there is a tutorial for doing the ladder stitch.
