They are so beautiful....when I was very small my Great-Aunt used to keep Peafowl, hers were white. I have never seen white since. We recently visited a property that had some roaming around, they are utterly enchanting birds, glorious colours and they are quite large too. Thanks for sharing.

About a mile from me live a peacock and 5 or 6 peahens. Once I saw them crossing the road right in front of my car from the lake back home. The peacock led the hens. When he got to the other side, he hopped up on a fence post and watched his hens cross the road. When the last one was across, he hopped down and led his girls home.

They are beautiful birds but they sound like a woman screaming. I was driving home from work one night and heard what I thought was a scream. I was afraid to stop so I sped up, drove home and told my Dad. He ask me where I was and when I told him he said it was a peacock. After that I knew I would never have them around.

We raised them here many years ago - we live on a dirt road at the dead end - so no traffic to bother them. But, guess because they were so inbred - the male was very mean. Their "scream" sounds like a very loud "HALP". We wound up selling them. We sat a large mirror out by the barn and the idiot male would fan his tail feathers and strut to the "other" peacock in the mirror. They lose their feathers about 4th of July and get them back about Christmas.

We have several at an acreage close to our home. One evening a woman was visiting and we were sitting on the patio. The peacock's started screaming and the woman got so agitated she thought someone was calling for help. After we explained it to her she just enjoyed listening to them. They also have donkeys or mules, not sure which and we can hear them hee-hawing often.
