Traveling Sewing "room" -- really doesn't take a lot of make many tops
#11
I am willing to bet a good majority of us started this way before we upgraded to using dining rooms, master bedrooms, kid's rooms, remodeled basements, or added a studio in the backyard. Some continue to do so. Many do not take books and magazines or artwork or yarn and needles to pass the time when on vacation, visits or when dealing with life's trials as you are. We take our machines and set up our corners where we can. Prayers to you and your sister's family.
What a Blessing you are to others .... and to yourself.

Before we put my dad in a home, I had to stay with him for a while (he lived in a different town) and I brought enough work to keep me busy. I put up shop in his dining room. He loved it. He would admire everything I made. I could work when I wanted and spend all the time with him when I needed to. It was the perfect arrangement. He has since died, but I remember that time fondly. I couldn't have stayed with him as long as I did without something to do. I'm so glad for quilting!
And you are wonderful for spending time with your family...showing support! That's what family is all about!!

I used to travel a lot doing craft fairs. So I spent some time in hotel rooms. I kept a small suit case full of stuff to sew. This was before I was into quilting or had a featherweight. But I made a lot of dolls and stuffies, so I would sew the pieces at home and bring the parts to put together in my room. Depending where I was I could get a lot done.

While I have been here at my sister's home, I have put together 2 full-sized quilt tops, 2 twin-bed size tops, and 17 crib/lap robe size quilt tops, and 3 circular table toppers. I will be busy at home getting them all backed and quilted! I send the full-sizes one to a LA quilter but the rest I will do on my sewing machine. Like DianneK, I brought mostly cut blocks with me. I'd accumulated a lot of them. When you are sewing with precut blocks, it is certainly quicker to get things put together.

I remember reading a trucker's quilting blog a while ago showing her teeny tiny sewing space in the back of the cab where she slept. She would spread out at truck stops when she could, during overnights and between picking up loads. I'm amazed how many dresses my mom made on the kitchen table in our tiny house with 6 kids. I don't remember ever eating in the living room!

love your little corner, it looks like the one I had at Dad's last winter except I have a Jem. I stayed at his house for 4 months while he gained his strength back. I love the tray table idea and will keep my eyes open for one. (Hoping I won't need it any time soon though). Bless you and your sister's family too. ((( )))
