How about an additional line of quilting about 1/4" in from the binding? It would be perpendicular to the piano keys. I suggested 1/4", but would pick a measurement that would catch most of the threads. Then pull the loose threads to the back, put a tiny dot of fray check and cut.

I wouldn't knot on the back. I cut off the loose threads and start my SITD about three stitches on top of the old. I would also use smaller stitches.

That is such a clever idea! I have to think about exactly how to do it, and how it would affect the overall look of the quilt. Maybe with a double needle...I'm thinking. I get the best ideas from y'all!

I was guessing that I need to unstitch each one, knot it on the back, and then machine SID along the places that it's become unstitched. Does anyone have a better idea?
I am not a happy camper.
Try putting a little dab of fray check or similar product on the ends.

you should always leave long thread top and bottom beginning and end and tie a knot and then work into back of the quilt you do not have a mess at either end doing this
