I always love when someone makes me a handmade gift instead of a gift certificate or a store bought gift. I think a pin cushion is a great idea! She will always think of you when she sees it or uses it. And lots of people will see it also.

I'd do a gift basket, and fill it with things you know she likes. Tea, a beautiful tea cup, candles, fat quarter packs, threads, a really pretty frame, bath salts, gift certificates to her favorite quilt shop, restaurant, movie theater. I did that once for a woman I worked with that had been very kind to me -- and the look on her face was priceless. Then a few years ago, a group of folks did that for ME....and I was in tears at all the thought and care that went into that basket. I never forgot their kindness.

I like DebbE's idea but I would add the homemade pin cushion. Your gift will be a surprise to her and appreciated.

If you know her really well then a gift certificate to her favorite place, whether a restaurant or whatever is great. It is nice to have something else in our lives.

If you don't know her that well then a gift certificate to her favorite LQS would be great. She could use it however she wants: thread, needles, material, classes, or notions.

I would think she will appreciate anything you do for her. It is so nice to get a thank you occasionally!

Ditto on the gift certificates to her favorite fabric store. Or you could also purchase some fabrics online then have it shipped to her. Everyone loves unexpected gift packages.

I, too, like the handmade.....maybe a mug rug. If you're not into the handmade, a gift certificate can usually be used by the recipient.....just make sure it's to a place she will go.....
