Just chiming in, I think you should be able to get one for much less.

$600 is too high unless it has a few $100 bills attached to it. I have 4 and will continue to buy more when I find them for reasonable prices. They are worth $200-$300 in most areas but condition matters, of course. And the more attachments and extras the more people ask for them. I see them in antique shops where they ask $280-$450 but that's a little more than I've paid for them. I've paid from $280 (my 1st FW) down to $50 and all worked fine and had good stenciling, etc. Always ask to sew with it before you buy... I always take along a piece of fabric, a spool of thread and a machine needle.... just in case the seller doesn't happen to have anything.

To me, it seems quite pricey ... though if you have been wanting one for some time
you probably have a better idea as to how the price compares?

I just looked on my dealer's website and there are three FWs listed.
To me, they still seem pricey, but I am not one that's into vintage machines.
    So what do I know?
Bonus! it's a long-established reliable dealer that you can visit IRL,
plus the machine(s) come with a warranty and lessons, if you wish.
You might even be able to get them to add in a servicing.
All these things, would help sway my decision.

scroll way down for the 221 FWs plus a 99K and 27-4

seems very high to me. even if you purchased it on craigslist for 200 and paid 100 for postage you'd be ahead. i'd wait and see.

That is the price range of the ones that have been repainted different colors.

Do you have craigslist in canada? Start there in your area and watch for awhile.
What something is listed at has nothing to do with the value, value is only determined by the middle ground of what the seller will take vs. what the buyer is willing to pay.

Also do you have goodwill auctions in Canada? this is ours
    http://www.shopgoodwill.com/search/
the listings always start low, and go up to what the market will bear, usually 300 or less.
    Good luck.

In my area, most FW I see at estate sales are in the $200-$300 range with all accessories. FW aren't worth that much but the demand is why the price is so high. I have a 301 which sells for about $35-$65 and it is a better machine. I have a white FW because it's so darn cute and it's a FW. LOL

Put the word out you're looking for a FW and something will come along much less expensive than that! I recieved two FW (1950 and 1953) as gifts from my neighbors.

CadQueen ... just remembered, there was a FW at the Stratford Antique Mall, when I was there a few weeks ago. Actually there were several different vintage machines, if you have an interest in others.

Way too high! You can find a nice one with all of that for half that price.

The machine is way overpriced IMHO. You will be able to find one a lot cheaper. Check out Ebay or Craigslist for your area.
