When I did mine I placed them in a flowing pattern with like hexies going from top left to bottom right.

My personal preference is showcasing the individual kaleidoscopes by adding the triangles in between which creates a secondary star pattern. And incidentally makes a larger quilt.

But it really is your choice. Because the other way is beautiful too.

How funny...I have an OBW in progress with this exact same fabric!!

I hate sewing triangles though, so it's been "in progress" for over a year. I need to finish it...I actually really like how it's turning out.

I sorted my hexagons by color - I have pretty bad eyesight so I cheat and take off my glasses, and that makes it easier to sort by overall color. Then I arranged my blocks so that the similar colors are grouped together. That gives the overall quilt a little bit more texture and movement. A design wall is REALLY helpful for this.

What is an OBW pattern?

I think the fabric you have chosen is perfect for a OBW (One Block Wonder) and wouldn't change a thing. I personally prefer the placement without sashing as it lets the colors flow from one to the next, but using the blue between will give an entirely different look and I like that too. I would suggest finishing your blocks, then placing them on a design wall so that you can stand back and see if it pleases the eye one way more than the other. I think a OBW looks much better from a short distance, much like a blooming 9P.

OBW -One Block Wonder is taking fabric that has a 24" repeat, cutting the fabric into 6 - 24" pieces making sure that the pattern of the fabric matches on all sides. You have to use a lot of pins for this. Then cut 4" strips. You will cut six layers at a time using an equilateral triangle. Then you take those six triangles & lay them out & turn them until you get the design you like. There is a book that I have called One-Block Wonders by Maxine Rosenthal. You can also search on youtube for one block wonder & find many helpful videos. The best thing is to ask here, these ladies really know what they are doing, unlike me.

I have this same exact fabric for my first OBW. It is such a very fine, soft, silky fabric too. One of JoAnn's best fabrics in my opinion. They have more of this fabric, but it is not the same material - much more coarse. I haven't started yet, so please continue to show us your progress.
