I took the plate off and the bobbin cover out. I can not see any thread anywhere inside.

What do you mean by handwheel?

The round thing on the right top end of the machine. It raises and lowers the needle.

How would thread get around the handwheel? Besides the handwheel won't move it is locked up tight.

It's not an unusual problem. I had to unwind thread for a long time from one of my machine handwheels. Usually there is a screw or pop out cover on the wheel itself to take off to see the guts of the wheel. When my Brother froze up the repair guy found a pin stuck in one of the machine gears. He said he has seen that before too. Usually it's something easy to fix with a new part or removing a foreign object.

    Rhonda,

Did you remove the feed dog plate? Check under there for stray threads.

Can you see in the area of the uptake lever? I use a flashlight and tweezers if thread is caught in there.

Did you have a recent needle break? That can damage the bobbin case.

Will the hand-wheel turn if you take out the needle?

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions everyone. I do appreciate it

    Rhonda

yes i have taken the feeddog plate off a coupel of times and taken the bobbin cover out. there is no thread or lint in that area at all.

I just now turned the machine upside down and with a flashlight and stilleto took out a few bits of lint. but no threads. I t didn't help at all.

No recent needle break. Yes I put in a new needle and it is in correctly. it will only go in one way.

The handwheel won't turn no matter what. I took out the needle - it wont' turn
I lifted the foot - it won't budge no matter what I do it wont' budge.

I am wondering if it is out of timing or something.

I will take a look on youtube.

I ordered another one this afternoon off of ebay so I should get it in a few days. I want to use this one stitch that is on this machine. I have 4 other brothers but they don't have the fancy stitches this one does. LOL so now I will have 6 Brothers LOL and oh did I tell you I am an only child LOL It always strikes me funny when I say I have Brothers LOL

When you new one comes, then take the old one apart. You may be able to see why it won't move and if it happens again you will know. At least practice taking the housing off of the old one. LOL That is always the hardest part.

I watched a video on youtube a little bit ago. she showed how to take the screws out and how to remove the cover on the left end above the needle. I tried to remove that screw but I need to go find a screwdriver with a smaller head on it. The one I tried using the end is too big to fit the screw head. so I will try again soon! If not I'll have my husband take it apart for me. LOL He used to be a mechanic and he is better at those kind of things than I am. Now I'm determined to find out why it locked up LOL
