I swapped signed block all around the world for years and always used Pigma pens. I tend to "set" them with my iron just to make sure they stay.

Iron on transfers from ink jet printers that I have used did not stand up to the passage of time. They crackled so I dared not wash them. I do not recommend this method.
How many letters do you need? Spoonflower makes a sampler of 30 swatches for $35+-. It would be printed fabric.

There is scrabble tile letter fabric available. I did a Google search using those words and came up with several hits. However, as my friend found, when she made her quilt, the words that she could make were limited by the amount and variety of letters on the fabric panel. I believe her letter panel could be cut into 2 1/2 inch squares. m My friend's quilt is absolutely beautiful! She used bright scrappy 2 1/2 inch squares as the background and because the letter squares were all the same colour, they really stood out.

I am wondering if Spoonflower would be a better choice and if you could specify how many of each letter you wanted. Of course, you would have to plan out all your words first.

I would be looking for a child’s alphabet panel or the typewriter fabric that was around a year or so ago.

Some years back, I cross stitched words on a child’s t-shirt using waste canvas. It was faster than applique. (for me, anyway) and washed and dried beautifully. You wouldn’t need a stabilizer with waste canvas.

    hugs,
    charlotte

    Default Thanks for replys

I should of been more specific, the crossword letters I want to make should be 3 1/2”. To 4”. I looked at the preprinted panel, which would be a great idea, but letters to small. Plus I need 5 letter J’s..

I have used the micro markers but that would take for ever to make.

Guess I will rethink my plans

Thank you for all the suggestions.
