don't feel bad, for over 5 years and over 100 quilts done people would ask..."what's the quilt on your bed like?" and i would have to say...."I bought it from Pottery Barn"
it took me...forever to finally break down and make a quilt for my bed;
i finally did, in fact now i have 2...
but i made at least 1 some 2&3 for every member of my family, and my hubby's family before i finally made ours.
(I loved my Pottery Barn Quilt too, so wasn't in a hurry) but others thought it was terrible...including my hubby who would ask every time i showed him a newly completed quilt, "so, when you going to make us one?"
keep on doing what you love to do and when the time is right yours will happen. :)

Hi from central Indiana!
As for the quilt for yourself. It sounds to me that you are a very giving person, no shame in that. The quilt I did for myself took longer than any other. After I finally finished it(took 7 months and was a lap quilt)I deciced I would like to sell this one. Currently I've been working on finishing my UFO's which is 3 full size quilts and 3 baby quilts, several tops started not finished, a lace table cloth and the list goes on. When you figure out how to fit yourself in and get all those loose end projects done please let all of us know many of us have been trying for years, its part of the quilting OCD.

Welcome! I have basicallly taught myself to quilt. Originally, I had signed up for a class when I was pregnant with my daughter (2007), that was three sessions, but only the first session went forward because there were not enough people enrolled. SO, in that session, we basically learned now to cut fabric and sew a 1/4 inch seam. That was it. Anyway, the first quilt that I made (what we were supposed to finish in the class) was a "Card Trick" quilt by Eleanor Burns. I did not find it too difficult as a first project. I was so proud after I finished it!!
You'll get it -- just keep at it!
