I quilt because I love fabric, choosing just the right fabric for a special quilt. I quilt because I want covers for the bed to keep us warm at night. I make family reunion quilts every other year so that I can be remembered by my family, passing down a part of me to be shared with newer generations. I quilt because I love it, I have something tangible, useful, colorful and an expression of myself. I quilt because it keeps me from doing bodily harm to my husband, as we are together 24/7 and he drives me crazy, but quilting helps keep me somewhat sane. Can you think of a better reason?

I have always loved quilts, and always wished I could make one. When I was a teenager my sister in law made one for my mother. It was just a simple 6 inch square patch that she hand sewed and used a sheet for the backing. She wasn't a sewer or a quilt maker so it was, as I said simple. It had no batting and wasn't quilted but she did a great job on it doing it "her way". Since that quilt I have always wanted to make one, but haveing no one to teach me and being a teenager I had other things to do. Now that the internet is so informative I have finally been able to teach myself with the help of those who really know, like the great pople on this board. I quilt because I LOVE it! I love seeing the finished product of something I did myself.

I love sewing, but even more, I love making something beautiful out of cast off clothes, sheets, fabrics, etc. I'm so darn cheap.

I'm oh so new to the art. I wanted to quilt for 30 years b4 taking the plunge. For me, the process of creating a quilt satisfies something deep in my soul. My job is stressful, noisy and never fully determined - chaos. I can go in my room, take a deep ahhh breath and it takes me to a slower pace and time, organized and controlled. I also love to garden, cook and can. My life returns in those places.

[quote/] So, WHY do you quilt?
Is it for the love of the craft?
The ability to create what will hopefully be a piece of your family history?
    The joy it brings you?
    Artistic expression?
    [/quote]

All of the above (plus it's the only thing I can control how it turns out! ;) )
