Thanks PaperPrincess,
I could have walked away without it but the thought of making two special people happy makes me glad I picked it up. I did use up a yard of fabric yesterday and will get at least another yard used up today. I resisted getting more cotton yarn which was also big for me. (I knit up washcloths on trips).
For the first time, I'm really enjoying this challenge! It's been kind of fun to look at my stash and think, now what can I make out of that?
I think I'll start a list of how much gets used up -using a rough estimate, of course.
Thanks for the support!

I like that idea of adding up how much stash you use. I am still working on this quilt top. Blocks borders arwe on now and read to set the blocks.

I've done pretty good with only one slip up. I was making a cow quilt from my stash and panicked when I realized that I would not have any more happy cows living in my closet, and bought 2 1/2 yards of more cow fabric. I've had to buy some border fabric and some reds & blues for 3 Americana quilts that I'm getting paid to make. DH just laughed when I confessed and ask me if it was on sale. It WAS but I still want to use up some more of my stash. So far I've made 3 quilts and 2 tops to be quilted and 2 tote bags from just my stash. I'm slowly making a dent in my stash.

Hey Katfish,
I wouldn't worry about the extra cow fabric. This is all supposed to make us happy. It sounds like you're doing a great job using up fabric.

Design wall is finally installed in the family room where I sew. Oh happy day! I used extra boards (24"x48") from dropped ceiling in lower level, warm and natural from my stash, 3M command strips purchased in December of 2012 and duct tape on hand. Hubby helped with marking the level line and we mounted three boards vertically edge to edge for nice 6' by 4' working area. I was on cloud nine having this project finished. Yes! I stayed downstairs and laid out the lap quilt I am currently constructing. It's enjoyable to be able to put something on the design wall and step back to get a better view....

Well.....confession time. I went out and bought 1 yd black solid.....but, really, I needed it. I joined the Boom swap and did not have solid blqck on hand. Yes, I could have gotten away with less than a yd...but...but...but....I felt strongly that I should go ahead and get a little extra...just in case. And I don't even feel bad. I have been so good. Started the fabric diet way before the official start date. Besides, even with regular dieting, it is encouraged to "cheat" a little every once in a while!

I made it through the weekend without a trip to Joann's, but I must go to Hobby Lobby tomorrow for sky blue background fabric for the runner I'm making and 1 more fabric for another part of it. I could probably go in & get the blue & leave, but it's hunting for and deciding on the other fabric that will get me. I only need enough for six 3" squares, but I feel weird getting that small of an amount, like I may need it again later.

I too have put myself on a moratorium but I crashed and burned early. But I bought sale flannel to use on the backs of "Gpa's old shirts" quilts for his grands so I'm really continuing a project right? Then I had to find some fabric to finish a donation quilt--bought a pattern and a scrap quilt book too. I've got to have directions to use up the stash right? Then Friday my Quilt Buddy said let's go to N...... so off we went. I only bought 2 pieces of fabric. One a large piece that will work perfect in another quilt and a neutral to work as background in a scrap quilt. So no more fabric for a while!

Didn't realize I was 'cheating' until I got home and it was pointed out to me. No, I didn't take a cold med and shop in my sleep. I had to go into town and pay a bill. Went to the LQS and didn't buy any fabric but did buy a template. Need to keep her in business. Then I stopped at the Salvation Army (little old ladies day!), and bought a couple of queen flat flannel sheets. One was a Martha Stewart, cream with a taupe damask print. The other was white with pastel flowers. The flannel on this one was amazingly soft and thick. The label said it was manufactured in Germany. Who knew? So I made my $6 donation and took them both home for backings. When I showed them to my husband, he said what about your moratorium? Duh. I was so proud that I didn't get anything at the quilt store, I didn't even think of the sheets as stash building... Oh well, it was a charitable donation...

I'm in. Lately, since about October, I have only been buying backings and a few pieces on sale. Guess I should stop the "on sale" items to truely be in. I will try and will be watching to see how others are doing.
