Well so much for thinking it was going to the rag man!!! It used to go to a company to be cut into rags and sold in boxes by the pound at auto parts stores. Guess I am behind the times. I do recall seeing a picture someplace of people crowding around a bale of clothing in some asian country. I went to our local SAVERS store the other day and they had a lot of sheets both percale and flannel. They ranged from $3 to $6 each.

It's amazing around here. Prices at the thrift stores have skyrocketed with the economy. People are trying to survive and as such, are trying to shop thrift stores instead of buying new, but when you can buy it new with a warranty for a few dollars more, or even for less than you can buy it at Goodwill or St. Vincent du Paul's I'm buying new! The thrift stores are pricing themselves out of business...why don't they do a little research? I shouldn't have to pay more than half new price for a decent used item....or at least I don't expect to.
The thrift stores around here are getting to be the absolute WORST places to buy a vintage/antique machine... $60 at the Humane Society thrift store for a Brother with no cords or foot pedal....same machine new at Walmart WITH a warranty is $89...

Those are incredibly high prices. I visit 2 Goodwill stores regularly and am very happy with the prices and merchandise. I just sent my size 6 daughter 5 tops/sweaters and 8 pairs or slacks/jeans/khakis - all from Coldwater Creek, Columbia, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, LL Bean - great brands in top condition. I shop on Wednesdays for the senior discount and bought all of this plus 3 pieces of clothing for my 3 yr old granddaughter (again top brands) for $55.00. I think you should look up Goodwill on the internet and complain to the district that your store is in. Every area sets its own prices and evidently, your district is not in sync with the economy right now.

Oh yes! I was scoping my local GW out last week for a used iron. $6.99 for a messed up Proctor Silex iron! $7.99 for old blue jeans! I was hoping to find a vintage sewing machine but probably don't want to pay their price. We go to the GW half-price sale every February in Corpus Christi and then can find some deals. Half-price day is 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, plus they have a punch card for free merchandise when you spend so much.
