I piece my quilts with gray thread unless it has a black or white background. Then I use black or white. I only buy colors when I need them. My husband did buy me a nice collection of embroidery thread with 80 some colors in it and I love being able to get just the right color out of the collection when I need it. I'm sure I'll use that all up.

I bought a Gutterham collection in a small box 32 I think, and I keep them in their box and use them just for Applique.

I have a lot of YLI silks that I use for needle turn applique....when I ever get around to doing it that is. I like how they disappear into the fabric. I guess all those "collections" I've acquired over the years would be fine if I were still making garments or doing buttonhole machine applique or things where the colors were important. Meanwhile, I'm just trying to use them up as basting threads.

I only buy when I need it, mostly use neutral, so unless I am topstitching or doing applique I rarely buy colors, When I do I use them, but the rest always just sits in a box

I like the neutral collection from Connecting Threads. I wouldn't get others though because I probably wouldn't use most of them.

I do buy the collections of thread, especially the neutrals and muted. I need lots of colors for t-shirt quilts as I quilt each t-shirt with its own color or at least I try. The "crazy" colors I use instead of using up white or the neutrals when piecing quilts

I have bought thread sets from connecting theads. great price and real pretty colors. Other than that I just buy spools when they are on sale.

When I run out of one color and have enough $$ to order I order my threads wholesale with other things I need, so I always have thread on hand fopr what ever color I need. That is hand quilting thread and I don't do machine quilting.

Yep, I did that when I first started collecting thread, before I realized that I didn't need to match colors while piecing. At least I do like most of the colors.
