If you use polar fleece you will not only save time and money but the quilt will be so cozy!

Using fleece for backing, without batting, enables you to quilt with minimal stitching, in fact it is recommended for a cozier feel, as in 8-10 inches apart! Stitch in the ditch is perfect and you only need to stitch it in one direction, just be sure that direction is PARALLEL TO THE SELVEDGE OF THE FLEECE. This is due to the stretchiness of the fleece. The other way it saves a lot of time is that all you have to do to bind it is cut the fleece 1" away from the edges of the quilt, fold over twice and zig zag down and you're done! You could easily make three quilts in a week this way. Best of luck to you!
I have found that a baby quilt made with 100% cotton is a gift much more appreciated because it makes it more unique. You can find easily for cheap blanket made of fleece or any plolyester blend, but not cotton.

It has been a very long time since I have posted or even been to the site. I used to quilt a lot, but since I returned to school 3 1/2 years ago, I have been unable to quilt much due to time restraints. I am almost done with school (2 classes this spring and 1 more over the summer) and I am working almost full time for a oral surgeon and still have my other part time job of stocking magazines. Plus taking care of my family.

The reason for my long overdue post today is, 3 of my co-workers are about to become first time grandmothers, 1 in Mid-February and the other 2 at the end of March. I have a 1 month break from school and I would like to attempt to make 1-3 baby quilts for my co-workers, using very simple and fast working patterns. I am mostly using scraps from my stash and will buy if I absolutely have to. I expect to have to buy the backing at least. Can you suggest some very easy and fast working patterns that I could look at and possibly use for these quilts. Ultimately I would like to do a quilt for each of the co-workers, but fear I will not have enough time before school starts again, so even if I can do just one, I would be happy. Out of the 3 co-workers, the one who would get it if I just did one would be my office manager because she has gone above and beyond to help me move up in my job.

Thank you in advance and Happy New Year!

Any of the free Linus quilts such as Warm Wishes work best.

I've made several simple quilts and backed them with flannel. The Mothers say they like them for tummy time because they do not scrunch up on the floor like cotton backed quilts.

That is a Nice Pattern, I was going to Suggest just lengthwise or Cross wise Stripes of Cloth (bright would be great) and the quilting could be just circles, squares or even if you are adventurous the Alphabet or simple outlines of Animals, Trucks ,Fish, Birds, Toys etc... (using pictures from kids coloring books as your Quilting stitches design to follow)

I second WARM WISHES. So much depends on the fabrics you chose-------------you'll have 3 competely different quilts with very little effort.
