No, I don't think harder, just perhaps a bit different.

I think the DJ blocks might be intended for machine piecing, but someone might be able to set me straight on that. Most I've heard of have been machine pieced, but of course one can hand-stitch anything. And some of the blocks have applique of course.

The QDs are generally traditional square quilt blocks which have been skewed into diamond shape, and can be any size at all. I like the 4"x7". The patterns can either be set up in EQ and printed out, or hand traced or run through copier from the books.
I do know that some people have machine pieced them, but I wanted to do the quilt like Linda did hers, as I had not done hand piecing before. I guess her charming manner captured my fancy!

I have changed my modus operandi since learning the QD method - anything tiny or curved, I do it by hand!

Yes, all hand stitched. I knew it would be a long term project, but I wanted to know that I had made one large project by hand before I shuffle off this mortal coil! :thumbup:

I'm basically a shamefully lazy person, so anything that takes patience is me being reeeally good. I have some quilting friends who make needle turn look like a walk in the park, but for me it is fairly hard, I'm not good at it. Particularly the inward turned curves. Larger, smoother curved designs are not so much trouble, but still, it's work.

I saw someone, maybe Eleanor Burns, do that thing where you sew right side down on some sheer interfacing or what-not, and then turn inside out;
or sew right side down onto water soluble stabilizer (expensive! Did I also mention I like to go cheap?) and then turn right side out;
either way, the hems are turned under for you and wahlah all done.

A lady I know taught a bunch of us how to do authentic Hawaiian quilting, and all needle turn, she's fantastic, I'm not!

I have an especial respect for work I know has been needleturned, I know how much work it is.
