A color that you like but also a light color. You need the room to be as light as possible.

Mine I just painted last year with a color from Lowes called "Winter in Paris" I brought home paint samples hung them up in the room and then picked the one that didn't clash with fabric colors. It is a gray - very subtle green color. I am really happy with it.

Go with your gut and paint it whatever color you find most inspirational! Just go to Home Depot (or wherever), check out the samples and pick!

    Just my opinion.

This is what I would do as well.

Whatever color makes you happy, although I wouldn't go too dark in a smallish room :)

I agree with katier825. A light buttery yellow seems to give off better light than white in my opinion. I have had both, and the light yellow by far was easier on the eye when sewing. It was almost like sunshine was in the room day and night.

My sewing room is a pale yellow with white trim and a white counter. I have a nice big window and call it my "Happy Room"! So whatever makes you feel good is what I would go for. I love bright cheery...soft greens are supposed to be relaxing. I wouldn't worry too much about how the fabric looks as long as the room isn't dark and You are comfortable!

I know you said you don't want to go with bright colors, but had to put in my two cents. My sewing room is painted a bright sunny lemon yellow and I love it. I don't have any trouble matching colors because I have a good light above my table. Since I spend a lot of time in this room, I wanted it to be a nice cheerful color.

I did mine in a blue - I call it Maui blue since it reminds me of Hawaiian waters. It is calming and peaceful...however, it doesn't calm me when frustrated with a sewing problem!

I went to the paint dept. and picked out all the colors that I liked...just what drew me in...and then I brought them home and thought about them in that setting. Most were tossed immediately then I considered the flooring and picked one.
