Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
Geeze, I'd love to have this treadle! http://goldcountry.craigslist.org/atq/3275774027.html
Unfortunately, it is priced too high for my blood!

Can that even be opened? If the top is tiled (it sure looks like it) I would think that a) the hinges wouldn't appreciate the extra weight and b) the thickness would no longer work right.
Seriously pretty, though, and it would solve the problem with water rings!

I found this image while doing a cabinet search using google images.
I know nothing on if this cabinet can be opened.
I just copied it as a future idea. I was researching to see if anyone had used contact paper or faux leather to cover the cabinet top.

I hadn't thought of contact paper. I know it can be amazingly durable - the previous owners of our previous house had used it to cover the the old Formica kitchen counters. We didn't get it changed out until we were getting ready to sell the house 12 years later (inertia - it's a wondering labor saving concept.)
Hi Monica, I like both cabinet examples, I think they are beautiful options. Here is a Pinterest link.
