I download Kindle books on Amazon to read either on my MacBook...or iPad.Don't recall how to get rid of them, but know you can.
I have a kindle on my I-pad but don't use it because I don't want to buy the books. I did buy one book but what
do I do with it once I read it? My questions is do you get free books to put on your kindle and if so, where or how
I am such a novice at the computer or I-pad or anything new. Thanks for any suggestions or instructions.

I like the Alexander McCall Smith series that is set in Botswana. The main character is Ma Ramotswe, the first female detective in the country. They are light, but amusing, and Ma Ramotswe is very clever!
I recently read Bread, Bones and Butter, a memoir of a NYC female chef. I enjoyed it very much!

Although not quite a mystery, I just finished one of the best books that I've ever read. "Bear, Otter, and the Kid". Nearly kept me up all night because I couldn't bear to put it down.

I've just recently (due to this board) discovered Marie Bostwick's 'Cobbled Court' series, which is quilting-related but not so much with the mystery/detective. And of course I am addicted to Jennifer Chiaverini's 'Elm Creek' series.
For the detective stuff I love Harlan Coben (the Myron Bolitar series), Robert Crais, and Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch). Also Sue Grafton, as someone mentioned, Patricia Cornwell and Linda Fairstein.
Janet Evanovich is a great choice if you prefer your humour first, and 'detecting' second

I know that there was a wonderful thread regarding this topic in the "old" forum. I bookmarked it, but now can't find it 
I also tried to "search" but, no luck. So, sorry for the repeat, but I need a new author to read! I just finished the Benny Harper series by Earlene Fowler - loved it!!! I've read all of Joanne Fluke - Hanna Swenson series as well as Diane Mott Davidson. Anyone have any suggestions for another author - light read, mystery with a quilting twist? I have to go into the hospital on Friday and I'd sure like to load my kindle with a good read. Thank you!

I like mysteries. the quilting mysteries are good. But I really recommend mysteries by Margaret Truman. She is former President Truman's daughter. A lot of her mysteries involve the "in" crowd in Washington , DC. She can write very believeable characters.
I have read all of the Elm Creek Quilt series. Liked them all, but especially the historical fiction.
I have read a few of the novels by Dan Brown.
I read the Harry Potter books too.

I love MC Beaton's series about the constable. It is funny and entertaining. Debbie McComber is great too. Kat Martin, Susan Wittig Albert, are good reads. I love JA Jance but that would be a little less lite than you want. I also read all the Tony Hillerman stories. They are pretty good but might not be lite enough for post surgical read.
I am reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo right now. I had read this series before but I wanted to read it slowly (the last time I was on a waiting list and there were people behind me that wanted to read it) and thoughtfully because it is an engrossing story. This book is definitely NOT reading lite. Hope your hospital stay is short and that all is well when they bail you out.
