I would machine quilt it for sure. Swirls, flower, leaves, all would look great. A class I recently took stressed that busy quilts need simple quilting designs but an uncomplicated quilt (like this one) looks great with a busier quilting pattern.

I noticed she said she was using a 3.0 stitch length and asked about going longer. I usually use a 2.0 for stid or smaller if FM because of the way I move the fabric the stitches get longer anyway. With a 3.0 or longer wouldn't be be easier for something to catch on the stitches when placed on the bed? And I think the stitches show more when they are longer.

Maybe those stitches were uneven because you did not have the top supported so its weight was not pulling......I would not waste veriegated thread on SID, that style of quilting is meant to lock in without being seen basically.....as suggested try a serpentine stitch maybe going diagonally across top......

Thank you. Tartan. for this site. I now have a few more ideas for how to quilt a "turning twenty" and some confidence to try other choices beyond stippling and meandering. Book marked the site and wish I could go home and try right NOW!

That site is awesome- thanks again for posting it!! I looked at it yesterday and really like the stairs http://blog.petitdesignco.com/2012/10/stairs.html or possibly a plain diagonal (or crosshatch- yes, I'm indecisive). Since it's such a big quilt I'm afraid to do FMQ as I'm such a newbie!!

And yes, I felt like my quilt was pulling or being pulled because of it's weight so maybe that was why the stitches were so uneven??

I'll have to play with more of my decorative stitches. I've got oodles of them and could use those on a crosshatch/ diagonal as well, right??!

Beautiful top! Just follow a simple design or ditch after reading- but take your time and don't get overwhelmed- there are no quilt police!! Kudos to doing it yourself- I'm about to do my first REAL quilting on my second quilt.
