That's GREAT - will have to check this out……..My Pfaff has a stitch that looks just like hand quilting, but requires the invisible thread for the top and regular piecing thread for the bobbin…..THANKS.

After all that's been said cotton vs poly, I say use what you like, what works best for you. Experiment with threads & fabrics, after all there are NO QUILT POLICE to make you use one or the other.

I figure that it won't wear through the fabric in my lifetime, so after that it will be no concern of mine. I just like to use good quality of anything as one gets better results and it is usually hassle - free.

I agree! I prefer cotton threa especially that from Connecting thread. Althought Coats &Clark has many colors that I sometime use for quilting I have found that spend I spend more $$$$ on the smaller spools and the CT tread gives me a better value. I will often mix both cotton ad the poly tread. Have seen no difference.

I do wonder if cotton tread will shrink with the cotton abric when washed and the poly not srink. Opinions???

I don't think it is believing a myth as much as it is preference. My fun time is sewing, I so much more enjoy handling cotton than polyester, in fabric, batting, and thread. Time is so short to enjoy sewing so I might as well work with what I enjoy best, which is cotton.
I would never think of telling those who prefer polyester they are wrong, so why is it necessary to criticize those who prefer cotton?

I used polyester (not cotton wrapped poly) to piece a top. When I finished putting the last rows together and pressed everything flat it all looked really great. As I was running my hands over the top to smooth it on the sandwich my hand went through the seams. On closer inspection, most of the seams were no longer stitched as the poly thread had melted under the iron. And the iron never touched the thread, just the fabric. Thus I do not use or recommend poly or rayon thread for piecing.

I agree with snipforfun, it may all come down to the almighty dollar.

My two cents on why I use cotton thread only on cotton is that it becomes part of the quilt, just as threads of cotton are woven to create fabric, the cotton thread used to piece or quilt becomes part of a whole. Just as using poly thread on a poly quilt....which IMHO would be a very good use of poly thread.

I use the best I can afford at the time. Sometimes la-de-da, sometimes Wal-Mart!

Shorebird, I have a Pfaff with that stitch and I didn't know about the invisible thread for the top. Can you tell me where I can find that information? I'm still learning about my machine, but the manual is not very informative. Of course, I may have just overlooked it. Anyway if you can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I am using cotton thread of a specific brand because I like it. I like the way it feels, performs, looks, and it's easy for me to obtain. I can also shop the sales and save some serious money on this brand. I have no trouble mixing my threads: cotton for piecing and polyester for quilting, or another combination. It's just personal preference, and I feel that any thread anyone wants to use is a personal choice and just fine. No Quilt Police here please!
