    I agree with this idea.

Tone it down with beige, light gold and the lightest shades of green leaning to moss and sage and away from lime. Then you can make some nice big leaf appliques and have them sneaking over the border into the body of the panel (maybe even have them be 3D where they go over the body of the panel, you know back them and quilt them before appliqueing and leave the tips that sneak over unsewn down.) to hide some of the red and black.

You can't really kaleidescope this unless you have multiples so you can get the repeat effect. Another option is to cut out the fairies and maybe just one of the poinsettias and applique them to another surface ala broderie perse method.

Perhaps cut out the fairies and appliqué them on to a more subdued quilt?

Although I suggested tea-staining, I think I would skip the staining and make it the medallion of a little girl quilt. Even if I hated it I am pretty sure nearly every little girl who came along would love it. You're talking about donating it anyway — just make it and give it on to someone else. Or maybe even better yet, give the panel to the Goodwill and get it out of your hair.

I like the panel but minus the border. That is hideous. LOL That would have to go. You could soften it up by adding a beige or cream colored first border and then on the outside of that, add piano keys in the tone on tone colors or lightly printed Christmas prints to compliment the colors on the panel....so for example, the red, green on the vest, cream, black combination in alternating colors. Just a thought. I'm a relative newbie, but If it was me, I would try that. Good luck. You will figure it out!

When I was trying to decide on colors to use for a child's quilt my then 6 yr old granddaughter told me "use the bright colors Grandma, children & babies like bright colors, remember that, Grandma"
So that is what I've done ever since

This would make such a nice Christmas lapquilt for a nursing home.

My first thought was tea-staining. Coffee works, too. That would tone down the colors and unify them.

But just because some don't like it the way it is, others will love it. So pick your favorite way to finish it or give it away.

I like this idea, but you wouldn't have to cut it up. Just applique the window 'shashing' over the panel.

I also like the pinterest photo that Annaquilts posted.

I have the strawberry fairy panel and having the same issues when I try to use it. I can't settle on an idea to use it.
