I got lucky at a thrift store last year and found an old, metal White machine for $25. It doesn't do much other than straight and zigzag, but its awesome as a basic backup to my Pfaff.

I have the Brother CS6000i - My husband bought it for me at Walmart almost 2 years ago. It's a really good little machine. I pieced and quilted the quilt in my avatar on it. The throat isn't very large but I can get the job done and done pretty well. I have been sewing for many, many years so I didn't need lessons thrown in from some sewing machine dealer. I also have a Baby Lock that I have had for years. The Singer that I got in 1978 still runs just fine. I gave it to a friend of mine that was just learning to sew when I bought my BabyLock. My mother bought a BabyLock from a Bernina dealer in Michigan and can't get any support from them... Who can tell whether you will get good service or not...

About 3 years ago I bought one of the $199.00 Singers - made for school with home ec programs. They have a truck sale with these macines several times a year at my local JoAnne's. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this machine!! It is all gear driven, no electronics at all, and it sews like a dream. I do wish that it have a larger throat, as it is difficult to actually quilt a larger piece on it, but as far as sewing and piecing my quilts - I don't think I will EVER switch to another machine for that. Good luck

How long before you get it. I am so excited for you. I know even when I was getting my featherweight a few months back from ebay, even though I had my Bernina, I could not wait for the new machine to come.

It is suppose to be here by the 10th I am hoping it comes sooner though! I have talked nothing about it all week, kept asking my husband when can I get a new one, I think I drove him nuts. I am so new to this but I am loving it already!

I ordered something from Amazon yesterday (Thurs) afternoon and when I got back from grocery shopping a little past 10:00am today it had already been delivered  and was sitting on my front step!

I can't wait to see how you like your new machine.

Ya it said the 10th and now it has shipped already and says the 8th, so I am sooo excited! Amazon is pretty good about getting things there on time, have never had a problem with them.
