There is nothing more attention getting then seeing a 5'4" Mom giving the "look" to a son who is 6' 1" and seeing him snap to attention. And this is the same son who I took to the ground when he didn't do as I said.

My grandpa was a school teacher from the "old school". He made sure his students obeyed him, and he focused on giving them a well rounded education that included respect, and values that they could use for a lifetime. Some of the methods he used with unruly young men, would today get him out of a job and probably facing charges. However, those same unruly young men grew up and told their story to me and said it was the best lesson they ever learned.
There is a big difference between abuse and corrective discipline. That is the major factor missing in so many families today.

I would love to be drug all over again.We were so much luckier to have lived in those days.I fear for our younger generation now.It is frightening.They seem to have no guidence.Hooray for all of the great parents that drug their kids they way we were.

Your last couple of sentences are very true. When I was going to school, we were given up to a 1000 sentences to write for any given infraction. When my son was in the 3rd grade he was acting up, I told the teacher give him 500 sentences to write. She said she couldn't I asked why.
Her response....
"I can't the PTA has ruled it a form of child abuse." I stood there shocked and speechless, then I replied.."Who is running this school? The principal or some group of power hungry women?" She just shrugged her head and walked away.
So when my son got home, he wrote 500 sentences out. The next day I handed them to the PTA president and told her if she wanted she could file charges of abuse, but my son will be writing sentences again if he doesn't listen to his teacher.

As we all know, there is no absolute hand book for raising children. We can only do the best we can, but on any given day our best may only be 75%. Parents are human and dealing with our children is definitely challenging. It seems like each generation gets into more negative behaviors than when we grew up. But believe me, there are many wonderful young people out there, just as there are many problem young people. I cannot remember who, Plato, Socrates, one of the famous philosophers that complained about the youth of their time, so and so the world keeps spinning. We need to have faith that good will triumph over evil and that we will hear more about the good; but it doesn't sell as well!

Isn`t it amazing(maybe not the right word) that we can buy a TV and it comes with a 251 page manual, in 7 different languages. But we can have baby and the hospital sends us jome with a little `care ` package and a pamphlet! Had my boys in the 7o`s and sooooo happy that part is over(birthing) but it`s never really over!
