Congratulations on your son growing up!

I have found the cheapest pump hairspray works best, but you have to devote some time to the process. Saturate the stain with hairspray, put a paper towel or old washcloth under stain, blot the ink stain with a different towel like you are pushing the stain out the other side, rinse in cold water and repeat till the ink stain is gone.

I have an old/recycled plastic icecream tub sitting on my washer for pocket contents. It has a handle and can be taken to the different owners and their items to be retrieved. I keep the $ as a fee.

sometimes plain old rubbing alcohol will do the trick. if there is any polyester content in the fabric, though, it picks up the dye superfast, and the dryer tends to set it.

    good luck!

Once they are dried in a dryer I doubt anything will take out the ink. Had he just washed and hanged them it would be easier; but the heat just sets the ink in.

I did the exact same thing as the son, however I was able to get the ink out with pump hair spray just yesterday. This all happened BEFORE either my son or husband got home from school and work! Thank goodness I found it before I put the clothes away, non the less it worked on 4 pair of jeans and 3 t-shirts. The pen ended up on my son's bed with a note attached saying that if I ever wash an other pen his clothes will remain stained!

DS did 8 pairs of pants (8 pairs!!!!!!) at one time and neglected to check his pockets for the everpresent ink pens. From what he said, they made it through the wash process OK but disaster occurred in the dryer. He was only able to selvedge 2 that were wearable. These weren't jeans but work slacks, corduroys and AE cargo pants. Does anyone have a good method to get the ink out w/o taking the color of the pants? He has tried hairspray, WD40, Shout, Resolve and laundry soap. It's kinda funny (not really but) he said that when it would happen to me when he lived here, it never really sunk in. If the pants had to be replaced, which was very, very rarely since I was pretty good about checking his pockets, I bought the new ones. But now that it's his responsibility, it's a whole new ballgame. He actually apologized for several things he has said in the past. My son has grown into a man. Course my first response when he told me was to tell him I would help him buy some new pants. Go figure! I know he doesn't have the money so what's the point of his feeling even worse. He was going to hit the thrift shop today to see if he could find anything he could use but the members of the QB have been so very helpful with so many things that I thought I would try here too. I'm sure he would be very happy with any help anyone could offer. Thanks friends.

I use Shout and Spray'n'Wash.Take equal amounts of both, combine the two and put it on the stain. Sometimes I let it sit.

You could try Lestoil & let it sit for awhile then try washing again.
