I remember my son's first driving lesson. We were in a parking lot that was deserted except for one car. One. He managed to come within a hair of hitting it - twice! Then, the morning we went to actually get his license, he was driving, and this moronic teenager who was too busy texting to pay attention to a red light, hits us nearly head on. I end up in the hospital. Even though it wasn't his fault it took him about a year and a half before he would go to get his license - then I had to drive! Virg

All of my kids are excellent drivers. I can honestly say that I relax when I ride with them. It was their father who scared me to death. Haven't figured out how the floor board on the passenger's side didn't have a big hole in it. They really should put brake pedals on that side, too. Don't you think? LOL

Bubble wrap is also an effective tool when one's child is learning to drive. Bubble wrap anything and anybody within 10 miles of our novice motorist! You'll look back on this time with laughter and joy.

been there, done that!! but mine was a boy. every time he left the house I would say, be careful out there and he would get mad at me and say, MOM, I know how to drive. I finially told him it wasnt his driving I was worried about, it was the other people. there are terrible drivers here.

While its another exciting milestone for them, you cant help but worry. Thank god I only had 2 boys to teach to drive and then worry about... and you are right, you do want to wrap them in pillows etc...mine have now been driving for a few years and both had minor scrapes which scared the heck out of them (and me ) so hopefully have learnt what we all know and that is you cant be too careful!

You have my sympathies to this newest chapter in their lives. My son totaled two cars within a year or so, the first less than a month after getting his driver's license, driving in a heavy rain storm, hydroplaned around a curve and turned his Nova into a squirrel, I was not thrilled. Then the following winter hit a patch of black ice at the other end of that street. on another curve aqnd hit another tree. I tried to tell him that trees do not move and to give his guardian angel a rest, as he was working overtime and needed a break. At least he learned some valuable lessons that winter, on how not to drive on black ice He learned, but I was a wreck for a while after that. It all worked out and he's a safe driver, especially with his little Zoe in the car Take care.
