A fleece back sounds like a good idea. Now I wish my top were 60" wide instead of 65". I have a rust striped fleece that would work.

When my brother was in the hospital last year I brought a lap quilt that I just happened to have around. It was enough to keep the chilly breezes from the AC off him and did not hang off the edge where it would have collided with the rails and equipment. It was about 50" X 64". Don't make a nice, big quilt for a person in a hospital because quilts have been known to grow little legs and run away! Mine was a jelly roll race, and he was very pleased with it. It's better to wait and give a nicer one when they're home. Hospitals can be expected to provide extra blankets if the patient asks for them.
