Let my DIL mash the potatoes for Thanksgiving one year and she made them so lumpy some of the potatoes were almost whole. UGH... We all like smooth mashed potatoes... The dear girl is no longer in the family but every year someone brings up the lumpy potatoes. To each his own!

Having grown up in Penna. Dutch country here in PA - bread filling always won out at our house. My Dad loved it, I loathed it. I like the garlic smashed red potatoes - so lumpy wins for me. I so like what we refer to as potato filling, which is mostly potatoes, mashed but not whipped with sauteed onions and celery and then baked. Some people will add some bread cubes that are for making bread filling.

My DH likes lumpy and I like smooth. Been doing this for years! I make potato pancakes with the left overs and the smooth and lumpy together make great pancakes!

When it's time to mash the potatoes I just yell out "who wants to mash the potatoes?" I put the butter and milk in the nuker and then it's up to the masher to decide. And everyone tells them how delicious they are - and they ARE!!!

No mashed potatoes for me. I have never liked them. When I was a child, my mother made me eat them even if they were cold. Couldn't leave the table until they were gone. We put mashed potatoes on at Thanksgiving and prefer them smooth. I continue to dislike them. Married a man who can't get enough of them!!

I really don't care, especially if someone else is cooking! I have always loved making Thanksgiving dinner, but now we go to our son and d-I-l's. It is a big family gathering and I love that too. I'm on that cornbread mix, canned corn, creamed corn dish that is delicious.
