I kept telling everyone that I didn't have much fabric.... then my hubby made a shelf for my closet so I could get my fabric out of totes and boxes... I don't have near as much as you , but had to say I felt guilty "almost" at all the fabric I have.... plus all the scraps that I love to save...... I need to sew some, before I buy much more.... thanks for sharing... made me feel better reading all the posts.

Well said, quilterpurpledog! Exactly what I was thinking but you said it better. We may not ever use up our fabric but it will still bring pleasure to another quilter, later. In the mean time, I'm trying to use up some of mine for donation quilts. And I do believe that those of us who enjoy fabric still need some new fabric in our lives from time to time!

OH you will shop again and I bet soon LOL!!! it always seems when you start a project no matter how much stash you have you need something else. OR you can't find the fabric you are looking for. I'll have to life to 200 to use my fabric stash LOL!!! so it sounds like you are in the club of living another 200 years

When I moved into the "big" bedroom in my house it was shocking how much fabric I had. I just call it my retirement fabric so I just keep adding to my retirement fund of fabric. LOL

I think saying you have too much fabric is rather like saying you have too much love in your life. No guilt here and my stash passed 1,000 yards ages ago.

I've never counted how many yards I have, but I can just look around my sewing room and know when enough is enough. If it starts to bother me, I just slow down and stop buying until it feels right again.

fabric is art. what we do with it is also art. when i look at fabrics, i can trace the history of the changing colors we've had through the years, the changing taste in styles, how the "new" is rooted in the old. my mom and her mom were fabric lovers, too, and while i didn't inherit their stashes (they'd thinned them out, considerably, over the years) i do have some "Skinner's satin", from the early 1900s, some amazing 50s and early 60s era prints from them--and then quilts from grandmothers, step grandmother's hands, great aunt's hands. it's art appreciation. my youngest laughs about her tattoos--"i'd rather wear my art investment every day than hang it on a wall, somewhere." (her ink is beautiful, and done by amazing inkers, one of whom has studied art at "the atelier", an exclusive art center, here. i like to store my art where i can pet it, admire the colors, share with family and friends who love it as much as do i, and give away things i've created. if i die, leaving too much, the kids will know that i obviously didn't sew fast enough, and they'd better start spreading the goods around, quickly! it's art appreciation at its best--and we are merely helping support our fellow artists when we see the beauty, too, and have to have "just a half yard..."
